About IoT

Generally, the term Internet of Things (IoT) means connecting things (devices) to the Internet in order to provide some remote monitoring or control. IoT is also very often used instead of Machine to Machine (M2M) communication, and it is considered as a process of re-branding of the M2M to IoT market.

The IoT devices create an intelligent network that can be programmed to collect and control data. IoT products are based on embedded software that enables them to communicate with each other or other IP equipment.

Depending on the embedded program, the IoT devices may have a role of a stand-alone intelligent sensors that collect and transmit various environmental data, a controller that manage some equipment based on the data collected from the sensors, or combination of both.

IoT devices may use different wireless connectivity standards including: Bluetooth, WiFi, ZigBee, 6LoWPAN etc.
